FINAL IMAGE:
INSPIRED BY JACK BARNOSKY:
My final image was mainly influenced by the work of Jack Barnosky: I loved the work he did with trees in their natural environment and how he cleverly used point of view and editing to make it seem as if they were alone and isolated from every other part of nature around them. The techniques I was most influenced by was the use of black and white editing to create the eerie and darker emotions within the photographs and to create the contrasts against the tree and the sky and the use of a black border to act as a frame and to make the image stand out a lot more against a background. Both of these techniques were incorporated into my final piece to create the atmosphere that I wanted to convey to the viewer and to show how I clearly developed my ideas throughout my project, incorporating various levels of techniques and influences as I went along.
I am really happy with the outcome of my final piece, the black and white editing of the image sets off a big contrast against the sky and the tree and I feel that this accentuates the feeling of loneliness within the piece: the isolation of the tree against the white sky is another element of this piece that I am happy with as I feel that this is really effective and conveys my theme to the viewer really well. It has also allowed me to pick out the detail from the smaller elements of the tree such as the ivy growing up the edge of the trunk and the smaller branches going off into the sky: when the image was in colour these smaller parts were not as visible as they are now due to the stronger contrasts from within the image.
When I was editing this image I added in a lens flare as I thought that this additional element helped to draw the focus towards the majesty of the tree and drew the viewers attention straight to this point, instantly making it the center of focus. The brighter part of the flare which is towards the top of the image adds in another contrast between the sky and the tree which makes the smaller branches stand out even more and the smaller part of the flare towards the bottom part of the image adds in another element of detail which accentuates how alone the tree stands in it's environment. This was an essential element that I wanted to incorporate into my final piece as I had to ensure that my theme of isolation was conveyed effectively to the viewer to conclude my project.
